Creative Resistance

Slow down. Draw from the well. Play with resistance, explore your edges, invite access to deeper levels of creativity and imagination.

Just surviving in a world on fire takes a lot for many women. Initiating change can feel both impossible and imperative. Creative resistance starts with actively calming our nervous systems, taking time to slow down and listen to the quiet voices so we can act from a place of grounded intuition and calm.“Creation is the only outcome of conflict or opposition that can satisfy the Soul.”
William Blake
Courting Kairos is first an invitation to slow down. We will start with some movement to help facilitate a restful state, I will share a story and various prompts and you’ll have a opportunities to share and connect with other participants, and to journal, draw, or create in some other way depending on the focus of the session. You may be nervous about slowing down. Our conditioning and survival instincts have us constantly on the move, dealing with one task or crisis after another. We spend much of our time wired and exhausted, never feeling rested, because of this finding, or staying in a restful state can be difficult for many of us. Remember, it is a practice and we don’t need to practice things that come easy for us in the same way. While you practice finding a restful state you may need a willingness to sit in the tension between rest and restlessness. Our willingness to slow down and sit in places of tension, to practice listening for something beyond the chatter and noise of the world and our own thoughts while engaging our hands or bodies can create the space needed for something unexpected to emerge.Kairos is a Greek word referring to an opportune or right moment in time. Michael Meade speaks of Kairos as the place where something new can emerge from the tension of polarization. In both definitions there is something almost magical about it.This practice of Courting Kairos is a prayer, an opening, an appeal to the muses, an invitation to our ancestors and guides. It is a statement that “We are listening.”
